The Temple of Isis was built in the Ptolemaic
period (332-330 BC), and was the foremost sanctity of the popular cult of Isis and Osiris,
a cult that was a strong contender to early Christianity. The Philae is now
presented with a sound and light show, which offers presentations in 6 different languages
and lasts 1 hour, and includes a tour through the ruins.

A felucca trip is a must at Aswan, and pleasure and convenience
can be combined if you heading out for sights on the other side of the Nile. A felucca is a local
sail boat, which benefits from the winds on the Nile, and whenever possible, also the
streams. Felucca trips are great ways of cooling off in the afternoon, while being on an open boat
in the midday sun.

Officially known as Island of Plants, locally and coomonly
called Kitcheners' Island, refers to Consul general Kitchener, who was given this island in 1890, and established a
botanical garden here through the early 20th century. The garden holds plants that are imported
from all corners of the world, and attracts a splendid bird life.

The island of Elephantine is very attractive in several
respects. For it's vegetation, the white sails of the feluccas, colourful Nubian villages and the
finest Nilometer along the whole Nile. Elephantine was in Ancient Egypt called Yebu
or Abu. This historic wealth of Elephantine is largely connected to ivory trade and
the quarrying of granite nearby.

Up in the mountain side of Aswan was one of the obelisk quarries,
and here lies a piece that never was finished. A flaw in the rock was
found half way into the process, finished, it would have become the single heaviest
piece of stone ever fashioned, weighing 1168 tons and 42 metres high. Ordered for one of
Tuthmosis 3's additions to the temple complex at Karnak.

The High Dam is over 11,000 feet long, approximately 3200 feet
thick its base and towers 364 feet in the air, and provides irrigation and electricity
for all of Egypt. It is said that it contains about 18 times the amount of material as was used
in the Great Pyramid of Cheops. Also, the world's largest man-made resevoir, Lake Nassar, was created
at the same time.
