Started to be constructed around 1400 BCE by Pharaoh Amenophis 3, the temples at Karnak and the Temple of Luxor were connected by an impressive avenue, flanked with grand sphinxes on both sides. In ancient egypt, the entire avenue used to be more than 3 kilometers long, and had more than 2000 sphinxes all together.

There are 3 main temple enclosures. 'The Temple of Khonsu', the 'Temple of Ramses III', and 'The Temple of Amon'. Other popular archeological sights are 'The Chapels of the Hearing Ear' and 'The Jubilee Temple' of Amenophis II, as well as 'The Temple of Opet' located right next to 'The Temple of Khonsu' , which is closed to public.

The Ramesseum was constructed to be 'The Mortuary Temple' of Ramses II. The temple faces the Nile, and has pylons, courts and hypostyle halls. The gloomy Sanctuaries are currently closed to public. The two fallen colossi of Ramses II add drama to the archeological Site as well as the original workmen's quarters, which are well-preserved as well.
