The site of the Allies' decisive victory against the Axis forces led by Rommel. Their
victory secured allied control over Egypt and the Suez Canal and ensured domination
over the entire Mediterranean. The Allied cemetery is a sprawling affair, with white
crosses interspersed by trees and overlooked by a giant crucifix.

Cleopatra's beach is both the most beautiful of Marsa Matruh,
perhaps all of Egypt, but it offers bad chances of swimming. If you take your chance you better be a good
swimmer, for there are good chances that waves and currents become hostile. It is a fine place to
relax and even sun-bathe, as long as you don't mind few possibilities of cooling down in the sea.

Agiba Beach is the pride of Marsa, even if it is no more than
30-40 metres long. It is set between protecting cliffs, and a nice reception area has been built on
top of one of these. The day ends earlier, as the cliffs takes away the sunset hours. But when the
clock closes up to 4, climbing up the cliffs is a nice idea, as are the views over the coast to
the east.
